The Ruthless Law of Business in the Age of AI

Just a couple of hours ago, Gary Vee released a captivating video on his YouTube channel. I couldn't resist taking notes, which I handed to my LM notebook, and it churned out the slides for me. I then sat down and wrote this article, hoping it serves you well.

Picture someone standing in front of you and proclaiming, “My plan for the first of May is: Organic activity on 9 different platforms, managing 57 separate accounts, and publishing over 400 pieces of content daily!” This isn't a bluff; this is Gary Vee's daily agenda. He begins his talk by debunking the biggest lie of entrepreneurs: “If you claim you're building a business in a world where 99% of businesses fail, but then tell me you don't have time to create content and grow your brand, I truly don't understand what the hell you're doing!”

Content creation and ruthless time management are no longer options; they are survival tactics. But how did Gary reach this point, and why are his words so impactful? Let's dissect his mind layer by layer.

Gary's Journey: From Soviet Immigrant to Content Mogul

Gary's story is the classic tale of an immigrant. Born in the Soviet Union, he immigrated to America at the age of three and by seven had become a money-making machine! While other kids played, he sold lemonade, knocked on doors to wash cars, and shoveled snow in the winters.

The turning point in his life was growing up in his father's liquor store. He understood that the key to success was simple: “You need to know where consumer attention is heading and pitch your tent there before everyone else.” In 1996, he launched the first online wine sales website in the U.S. By 1997, his email newsletter had 50,000 subscribers with an astonishing 85% open rate! The day Google AdWords launched, he bought all wine-related keywords at the laughable price of 5 cents per click.

He was ahead of the curve with Facebook, Twitter, and Tumblr, investing in them in 2007 and getting rich. Today, he owns VaynerMedia, a global advertising agency with 3,000 employees and an annual revenue of $400 million (note: $400 million in revenue, not paper valuation!). He built this empire not with foreign investors, but by pounding the pavement.

The Mid-Funnel Opportunity

The greatest opportunity available to businesses today is what Gary refers to as the “mid-funnel” or organic content. The era of social media is over; we are now in the era of “interest media.” When you wake up in the morning, your TikTok or Instagram feed isn't filled with posts from your cousins or old classmates; it's filled with content the algorithm knows you are interested in.

This means your content can find its audience, even if you have no followers! Gary insists, “Every company should spend at least 20% of its entire marketing budget solely on organic content creation.” Create YouTube Shorts because these videos are feeding Google's AI (Gemini), and one day when a customer asks the AI, “What’s the best healthy snack brand?” your name will pop up. Plow through LinkedIn for B2B. Be ruthless in content production.

A Call for Authenticity

In this conference (focused on organic and healthy products), Gary delivers a slap to producers. He states, “Many here claim their product is 100% organic and healthy, but when you read the packaging, it says 'natural flavors'! I'd rather eat beaver butt extract than hear these lies!”

His discussion isn't just about food; it's about organizational culture too. You can't claim 'culture' is important to your company, yet turn a blind eye when your top salesperson (who drives short-term profit) is a toxic jerk who destroys others' spirits. You can't compromise on your values. As the saying goes, “You can’t be half-pregnant!” You're either something, or you’re not. Faking authenticity is your business's biggest weakness.

AI: The Future is Now

Now, let’s get to the juicy part: Artificial Intelligence (AI). Gary makes a startling prediction: “30% of the grandchildren of those sitting in this room will marry an AI robot!” It might sound funny or scary, but this is the future rapidly approaching us.

Why Building a Personal Brand is Your Best Job Security

In today's volatile job market, job security is scarce. Building a personal brand is your ultimate safety net — it's what people remember when they hear your name.

AI is on par with the invention of electricity or the internet. But what's the good news? “Even if you've had your head in the sand until now, you haven't fallen behind! If you start learning from tomorrow morning, you'll quickly reach the front lines.”

However, Gary issues a striking psychological warning: Many entrepreneurs use 'geopolitical' or 'ethical' reasons to hide their laziness! They say, “AI is dangerous for society” or “I'm concerned about children's futures,” when the truth is they simply don't have the energy to spend 50 hours a week learning to use tools like ChatGPT or Claude. We love hiding behind philosophical slogans when we don’t want to put in the effort!

Empathy and Kindness

Despite all these hardline approaches, Gary has a bright and profound point: kindness and empathy.

He advises that in conferences, rather than just sitting in formal sessions, greet and chat with strangers in the hallways. If you approach someone and they ignore or mistreat you, remember two very important rules:

  • Other people's bad behavior has nothing to do with you! If someone throws up on you, they're in a dirty psychological place, not because you're worthless.
  • Empathize! Perhaps that CEO who didn’t return your greeting was informed 40 minutes ago that his factory caught fire or his grandmother is dying.

Why are we so delusional to think everything in the world relates to us? Ditch the pessimism and anger; optimism and empathy are your strongest shields in business.

Conviction Over Convincing

In the Q&A session, a young 24-year-old woman asks, “How can I convince the top executives of my company to care about environmental issues?” Gary’s response is a masterclass in leadership: “Convincing others in a corporate system when you have no leverage is impossible. The biggest mistake of our society is trying to convince.

What’s the solution? Conviction and Action! Instead of begging your manager’s manager’s manager, grab a camera, go to a university and interview 200 people asking if they’d pay 50 cents more for green packaging of this product. Edit the video and make it viral on social media. Let the market prove your point.”

The Importance of Self-Awareness

Ultimately, all marketing strategies, AI, and networking are worthless without one thing: self-awareness.

In his closing remarks, Gary states, “The biggest problem people have is being stuck in the business of 'I wish I were in so-and-so's shoes' instead of understanding 'who they really are.' The sooner you accept the reality of what you’re terrible at and what you excel in, the sooner you’ll win. Self-awareness is the cousin of 'self-love.' When you accept yourself as you are, you’ll surround yourself with people who cover your weaknesses, and that’s when you win the game.”

Don’t wait for technology to halt; it won't. Build your content, ditch the intellectual excuses, be a good person, and start playing the game today.
